A large part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 is dedicated to revitalizing US manufacturing in general (and clean energy manufacturing in specific) through incentives and tax credits.^[3] The landmark CHIPS Act of 2022—a $280 billion investment in semiconductor production—is a similar commitment to at-home manufacturing.^[4]

Changes like these will have profound effects. In 2022, the construction of new manufacturing facilities rose by 116%.^[5] And the total number of manufacturing jobs has now surpassed pre-pandemic numbers.^[6]
